Ancient Middle Eastern Biblical Studies

CORE FOUR

SEMESTER ONE

4101 Apocrypha/Pseudepigrapha:

Few Christian have read these works written during the Inter-Testamental Period. Whether the books are authentic or mere fiction does not diminish their importance for style and philosophy during this period, or whether the works are valuable historical information or the imaginations of the authors. We do know that much of the things learned from these writings are mentioned in later authenticated works.

4102 Personal Finance in Biblical Perspective — Guest Faculty:

In order to glean from masters of financial wisdom, this course introduces a team teaching approach to the program. Business leaders, scholars, financial leaders, parents, grandfathers, and Bible teachers were invited to contribute to this important course. Assignments in Level 4 will help establish patterns of good financial thinking in each student.

4103 Biblical Archaeology II — Steve Lancaster, MA., ThM:

This continuing study of the subject gives the student an opportunity to focus on specific archeological projects related to Biblical history. Photos, diagrams, and sketches provide visual aids to make the digs real and interesting. Students are assigned projects for research that will heighten their interest in this valuable tool to Biblical authenticity.

4105 Christian Perspectives on Rome — Judith Fain, MA and Jimmilea Berryhill, DPhil (c):

Rulers of the world, this empire attempted to reach the very throne of heaven. Ironically, some of the ideology and the mythology are all too familiar in today’s world of extreme technology and enormous human accomplishment. Rome appeared invincible at the height of her glory. Many of the subtle weaknesses and passions of Rome are still prevalent.

4206 Hebrew Christians — Jimmilea Berryhill, DPhil (c):

Although first century Christians have been the focus of many studies and attempts at duplication in church style and worship, the history of the earliest and most prominent groups of believers in Messiah are sparse. Vital texts and recent archeology have given even more evidence to the study of this important group, their worship, and disappearance.

4207 Josephus:

The course looks at the man, his writings, his motives, his culture, and his faith as a Jew. In this complicated story and web of intrigue, it is not always simple to define the good actions of Josephus from the not so good actions of him a a prominent Jew of the Jewish revolution. This course studies the events of this period and the effect of Josephus’ work during and after his lifetime.

4208 Biblical Poetry — Steve Lancaster, MA., ThM:

This study organizes the styles and patterns of Biblical poetry into areas that speak to the culture, to the history, and to the language of the Hebrew people in such a manner that the stories never age nor the meaning of those stories die. In this unusually precise course of study, the Bible characters come alive with individual personality and passion.

4210 Religious History of Mesopotamia — Judith Fain, MA:

In light of recent events, this study will be one of extreme challenges in the heart and serious research into the history of the cradle of civilization. With Iraq as an opening nation, study in and about this area is likely to explode This study will prepare believers for future encounters with needy people of all nations and firm the foundations of a mighty God and His love.

4105 Organizational Leaders in Ministry — Guest and Faculty Instructors:

One of the most needed skills in ministry for Bible scholars or for families is that of organizational leadership abilities. Corporations are seeking individuals who can work with people and who can delegate and yet not dominate employees. Ministries, missions, and homes have the same need and this course, designed and presented by prominent and trusted Christian and Jewish leaders will help the student develop those skills.

This surprising study will not only answer many questions concerning Bible prophecy but will relieve many from the fears of misunder—standing apocalyptic literature. The historical nature of this study gives a new dimension to the story of the nation of Israel and the plan of God on their behalf.

4210 Hebrew Language Study Skills V — Douglas Wheeler, ThD, PhD:

This final phase of the study skills proficiency course is a directed research study. Completion of this portion of the study skills work will provide the student with the ability to utilize these methods in any biblical passage.

4101 Practical Ministry in Christian Education – Sue Mackrill, M.A.:

More than just teaching “subjects,” Christian education involves ministry to the whole child and to his or her family.

4102 Classroom Instruction for the Christian Teacher II – Judith Nusse, M.A.:

This gives a further opportunity for practical experience in the classroom.

4103 Christian School Administration – Sue Mackrill, M.A.:

This class teaches the practical and philosophical aspects of administration in Christian education.

4104 Communication Skills for the Christian Educator – Mark Gentry, M.A.:

This course teaches practical skills for communicating in Christian education.

4105 Christian Organizational Leadership in Ministry – Dr. Jimmilea Berryhill, D.Phil.:

This course provides the fundamentals for establishing and conducting an effective organizational program for Christian education.

All educational courses from level three, semester two through level four are conducted by Sue Mackrill at SOS Christian School, Omaha, Nebraska.

Each Christian Education student is required to spend two, two—week periods in the Omaha classroom during level four, semester one.

SEMESTER TWO

4206 - 4210 Internship of the Christian Student:

This final semester is spent as a full—time support teacher with Sword of the Spirit school under the direction of Sue Mackrill..

A full semester Level Four Internship of the Christian Student is required for each Christian Education students. Internship is completed in Omaha, Nebraska at the convenience of Sword of the Spirit School and the student.

Coursework for this Christian Education degree will not be accepted for teacher certification/licensure in the State of Arkansas.
